There are many culture and folklore celebrations in the state, more than 25 different kinds of dance in Alagoas, the great majority coming from the European continent that mix with others of African and Indian origins, forming new colors and rhythms.
The state exhibits diverse tourist itineraries, such as, the Costa dos Corais, a spectacular scenery that holds the second most important coral formation in the world. On the low tide, natural pools are formed and the tourists can observe a great diversity of small colored fish, in warm and clear waters. The place offers a good tourist infrastructure, with hotels, inns and restaurants. Other remarkable characteristic of the littoral of Alagoas is the great number of lagoons that were taken as an inspiration for the name of the state. In all, they are 19, but the most well-known are Mundaú and Manguaba, that together, form one of the most lagoon complexes of the world.
Located in the south littoral, the Mundaú lagoon has an area of approximately 23 km2 and stands out for the wideness of its mangrove swamps and a variety of fish and mollusks that form canals until the encounter of the Mundaú lagoon with the sea. The Manguaba lagoon is the biggest in the state and its principal attractions are the boat rides across its islands. The scenery of the village of Massagueira, located by the edges of Manguaba, guarantees the tourist an astonishing scenery.
On the far extreme of the state, we can find the third biggest river of Brazil, the São Francisco. Along the river we can see a nice scenery, such as, the canyons and waterfalls. A lot of history can be seen in the colonial cities. Also one can see modernity in its hydroelectric plants.

The state littoral has as remarkable aspects, the regular coastline, broken by timid tips, small and calm coves and by the mouth of the rivers. The dunes are very long. On the mountain ridges some mountainous formations stand out, and also the river springs, waterfalls, cascades, expressive flora and fauna, crystal water, fossil sites, pleasant climate, caves and belvederes.
